or dehydroepiandrosterone, is the most abundant steroid hormone in the human body and is produced from cholesterol by the outer layer of the adrenal glands in both men and women, with the ovaries and testes producing smaller amounts. It is an essential hormone with it's main function being a precursor to male and female sex hormones, including testosterone and estrogen. Natural DHEA levels peak in early adulthood and generally decline slowly with age. DHEA has been shown to protect against cancer and heart disease and to lower blood cholesterol.DHEA has also been shown to improve memory, strengthen the immune system, prevent bone loss, reduce body fat and enhance libido.
